A Preble County man is charged with attempted murder in the stabbing during a domestic assault Monday morning that critically injured the mother of his children.

David A. Daniels, 45, of Gratis was charged Wednesday in Eaton Municipal Court with felony charges of attempt to commit murder, felonious assault and domestic violence.

First responders found a woman who had been stabbed in the driveway of a house on Parrish Drive in Gratis. The 45-year-old woman was flown to Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton with critical injuries, said Preble County Sheriff Mike Simpson in a statement released from his office. On Wednesday it was reported that she remained hospitalized in serious condition.

A 911 caller who said he lives in Eaton told a dispatcher around 11:50 a.m. Monday that his daughter told him to call 911, that the man she lives with was on drugs and beating her, according to dispatch records.

Daniels — who has seven prior domestic violence convictions — and the woman have lived together for multiple years and share children together, the sheriff’s office said.

Daniels is held on $500,000 bail in the Preble County Jail.
